My Love of New Orleans
I met my husband in college in 2004. I was a suburban girl from Chicago, but just urban enough to not be intimidated by going off to Denver for college. There I met a sweet Southern boy from New Orleans, a city that had always intrigued me. Luckily, for me the love affair began with not just the city but the man and now fifteen years later we are happily living in Chicago with our family.
We are so lucky to travel often to New Orleans to visit my in-laws, eat the amazing food, and enjoy all the lagniappe that city has to offer. It is magical in a gritty and special way.
New Orleans is a special place. The city has soul. The food and the history are so encompassing, it’s like no other place in the United States. It’s an old city with European vibes, and it shows everywhere you look! The homes are gorgeous, the Quarter is trapped in time, the trees and the lush foliage just add to that feeling of other-worldliness.
Our favorite restaurants are Galatoire’s, Peche, Commander’s Palace, Saba, and Turkey and the Wolf. I love going to Angelo Brocato’s after dinner for gelato (make mine Zuppa Inglese!).
