Spicy Creamy Basil Sauce & How To Use It
I am on a Whole30, and my goal is to create recipes that are healthy and delicious enough that anyone can enjoy them… Especially my husband, who is my toughest Whole30 critic! When I was running around the garden the other day, I had a bunch of basil and peppers to use. I knew immediately I was going to make a creamy sauce for an Everything Bowl, which is just a bit of everything yummy—protein, veggies, and starch.
Spicy Creamy Basil Sauce
1 c. Whole30 compliant mayo (or a high quality non-compliant mayo like Sir Kensington’s if you aren’t Whole30-ing)
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1 c. fresh basil, torn up
2 tbsp. chopped chives
1 Serrano chile
1 Fresno chile
salt & pepper to taste
Throw it all in the blender and blend, baby, blend! This sauce is… the boss? Can I say that?
With this sauce as inspiration I arranged an Everything Bowl, here were the ingredients:
Roasted sweet potatoes with salt & pepper for the base
Coleslaw dressed with lime juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and a teaspoon of Spicy Creamy Basil Sauce. Then I mixed two chopped green onions into the coleslaw.
Shredded chicken breast from a Whole Foods Plain Organic Rotisserie Chicken
Topped with another tablespoon of Spicy Creamy Basil Sauce
A dish like this is so easy to make, and some variation can be made with almost anything in your fridge. Don’t have coleslaw? Use arugula or any other salad you might have in the house! No chicken? This would be delicious with leftover steak—even cold! I hope this inspires you to look around your fridge and pantry for inspiration!
